+ Nitrile butadiene (NBR, BUNA-N)

Nitrile butadiene (NBR, BUNA-N)

Better known as Nitriles, reinforced NBR rubbers have good oil and gasoline resistance, tensile strength, elongation properties, heat resistance and low compression set. Special compounding is required for good weatherability.

Visit the BUNA-N / NBR page for more information.

+ Fluorocarbon (FKM, Viton® ETP, Viton® Extreme, Viton® GLT, Viton® GFLT)

Fluorocarbon (FKM, Viton® ETP, Viton® Extreme, Viton® GLT, Viton® GFLT)

FKM is a moderately priced elastomer exhibiting excellent resistance to heat, ozone, oils, many chemicals, and some solvents. Higher levels of chemical resistance or enhanced low temperature properties are achieved through the selection of the proper polymer family. DuPont's popular Viton® ETP elastomer is a member of the FKM family.

Visit the FKM page for more information.

+ Ethylene propylene (EPR and EPDM)

Ethylene propylene (EPR and EPDM)

Ethylene propylene is a low cost polymer with high tensile strength and elongation, and excellent resistance to oxygen and ozone when properly reinforced. EPR and EPDM, two such polymers, have the potential of good flexing characteristics, low compression set, good heat resistance, and good electrical properties, in addition to high-availability and low-cost.

Visit the EPR and EPDM page for more information.

+ Silicones

Silicones

Silicones are higher-end rubbers which include several varities of the siloxane polymer chain (also called polysiloxanes). Silicone compounds are resistant to heat, high-aniline point oils, atmospheric conditions, ozone, and compression set.

Visit the Silicones page for more information.

+ Chloroprene (CR) and Neoprene

Chloroprene (CR) & Neoprene

CR made from chlorine and butadiene. These rubbers resist heat, oil, chemicals, ozone, weathering, flexing, compression set, stain and flame.

Visit the Chloroprene & Neoprene page for more information.

+ Fluorosilicone (FVMQ)

Fluorosilicone (FVMQ)

FVMQ, also called fluorosilicone, is a high-end rubber offering outstanding aging properties over a wide temperature range.

Visit the FVMQ page for more information.

+ Polyurethane (AU and EU)

Polyurethane (AU and EU)

Polyurethane materials, including AU and EU, have high tensile and elongation characteristics.

Visit the Polyurethane (AU & EU) page for more information.

+ Perfluoro (FFKM, Kalrez®, Chemraz®, Simriz®)

Perfluoroelastomer (FFKM, Kalrez®, Chemraz®, Simriz®)

Commonly referred to as Kalrez® (DuPont), Chemraz® (Greene, Tweed & Co.), and Simriz® (Simrit) this expensive elastomer type is usually produced as a terpolymer of tetrafluoroethylene.

Visit the Perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) page for more information.

close details

+ Polyacrylate (ACM)

Polyacrylate (ACM)

ACM polymers based on ethyl acrylate are characterized by excellent heat and oil resistance and a low temperature flexibility of -14°F.

Visit the Polyacrylate (ACM) page for more information.

close details

+ Tetrafluoroethylene & propylene (FEPM, Aflas®)

Tetrafluoroethylene and propylene (FEPM, Aflas®)

Commonly referred to as Aflas, FEPM is usually produced as a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene and is vulcanized in peroxide/coagent cure systems.

Visit the Tetrafluoroethylene and propylene (FEPM) page for more information.

close details

+ Ethylene acrylic (AEM, Vamac®)

Ethylene acrylic (AEM, Vamac®)

AEM, also known as Vamac (DuPont), consists primarily of methyl acrylate copolymerized with ethylene and a third monomer containing carboxylic acid. Excellent ozone, weathering, sunlight and oxidation resistance result from this elastomer's saturated ethylene chain

Visit the Ethylene acrylic (AEM) page for more information.

close details

+ Chlorosulfonyl polyethylene (CSM, Hypalon®)

Chlorosulfonyl polyethylene (CSM, Hypalon®)

CSM, also called Hypalon, is produced by reacting polyethylene with chlorine and sulfur dioxide. CSM rubbers resist a variety of chemicals including hydrogen peroxide, sulfuric, chromic and nitric acids.

Visit the Chlorosulfonyl polyethylene (CSM) page for more information.

close details

+ Epichlorohydrin (ECO, Hydrin®)

Epichlorohydrin (ECO, Hydrin®)

Hydrin® is available as a homopolymer (CO) and a copolymer of epichlorohydrin (ECO) containing about 40% ethylene oxide. This rubber also has low resilience characteristics and low temperature flexibility to -5°F.

Visit the Hydrin (ECO) page for more information.

+ Styrene butadiene (SBR)

Styrene butadiene (SBR)

SBR is a low cost, high volume rubber with differing properties based on ratios of two monomers.

Visit the Styrene butadiene (SBR) page for more information.
