AFLAS® (FEPM or TFE/P) is a copolymer of tetraflouroethylene and propylene widely known for its unique combination of chemical, electrical, and heat resistance. Lutz offers o-rings, seals, and custom molded rubber products produced from 100% pure AFLAS..
About AFLAS®
AFLAS, developed by the Asahi Glass Company in Japan, was the first base-resistant fluoroelastomer on the market. AFLAS is a member of the fluoroelastomer group, however due to its unique structure this polymer has several characteristcs not found in conventional FKM (Fluorocarbon) materials. AFLAS is produced as a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene/propylene and is vulcanized in peroxide/coagent cure systems. This fluorinated elastomer is inherently resistant to a wide variety of chemicals, petroleum products, and medium/high temperatures and out-performs most FKM's in many applications. Lutz is a premier source for quality AFLAS® products fully-stocked and available at high-quality, low-cost.
The AFLAS® Advantage
AFLAS offers several distinct advantages over other materials:
- Superior base resistance over conventional FKM's
- Superior amine and steam resistance over conventional FKM's
- Superior resistance to acid and electrical conductivity
AFLAS® Serves Many Roles :
The unique properties of AFLAS allow its use in a variety of products for a number of industries. Some typical applications of AFLAS include as an oil seal for automotive applications due to outstanding amine resistance, as a seal in petro-chemical environments, as a high-pressure steam seal, a heat-resistant seal, and as a gasket due to its electrical properties in industries such as the automotive, chemical processing, wire and cable, industrial, oil drilling and exploration, and aerospace industry.
AFLAS out-performs most conventional FKM's in applications involving:
- wet sour gas and oil
- amines
- strong alkalis
- highly polar fluids
- phosphate esters
- glycol brake fluids
- weathering
